The Old students association of THS has put together some programmes for basic welfare of her members, some of they are mentioned below.
The THSOSA Group Life Insurance Scheme – TGLIS was launched by the former National President of THSOSA (Engr Omajuwa Ajuyah) on the 9th of November, 2019 at the Association’s AGM in Benin City.
TGLIS covers Group Life Insurance, Permanent Disability Benefit, Medical Benefit, Critical Illness Benefit and Burial Expense.
Benefits of this scheme includes
• Financial Protection of Dependents: The group life insurance plan offers financial protection to the family of the employee and helps them to be stress free about their dependents financial future.
• Default insurance cover: Group policies provide ‘auto cover’ to members simply by being part of that group. The policy ensures at least a basic insurance cover for those who are without any life insurance policy.
• Free cover limit: As the insurance is offered to all members of the group, irrespective of their health condition, it is of great value to people who belong to a high-risk group or find difficulty in buying a policy.
Those eligible for this scheme are;
Registered and financially up to date THSOSA member (members can register their spouse or children or parents who MUST be above 18years but not more than 65years old, and will each pay their separate premium)
Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff of Technical High School
Registration/ Subscription to the Insurance scheme.
Payment of annual premiums as at when due.
The THSOSA Health Support Scheme (THSS) is a THSOSA National Welfare initiative design to assist THSOSA members who are having issues in getting professional advice or support on their medical issues, by linking them up with THSOSA members that are medical doctors who have volunteered to render such support.
The scheme is NOT an alternative for seeking medical treatment remotely; it is purely for professional advice/ assistance to members through referrals or contacts to fast-track assistance for members on their health issues.
A database of THSOSA medical doctors whom have volunteered to provide such will be kept by THSOSA National under the supervision of the National Social/ Welfare Secretary and volunteers’ information will NOT be made public.
The ONLY single point of contact between members and volunteers will be through the National Social/ Welfare Secretary at first escalation in linking a member to a medical volunteer.
The THSOSA Mentor – Mentee Scheme is designed to help mentees build network, expand their horizon and also help them find new opportunities.
The Scheme is broken into three categories;
UNI_THSOSA – Memebers in tertiary institutions
Those with 2 to 5 years post NYSC experience and
THose with over 5 years post NYSC experience.
The aim of TMMS is to give mentees career advice, personal growth and academic guidance as well as equiping them with the required skills for entrepreneurship and this we achieve through our Seminars, career planning and CV Clinics Webinars, Matching of Mentors to Mentees for a structured mentoring programme, Motivational talks, Entrepreneurship, Awareness on global trends and how to adapt your career and Managing 360 degrees career change in our clearly stated Short, Middle and long term goals.
From practical experience, it is a verifiable truth that it takes nothing less than 10 years for a student graduating from or exiting DSC Technical High School, to complete his/her tertiary education, get gainfully employed/have a steady source of income, then connect with the DSC Technical School Old Students Association (THSOSA), to become a member. This created lacuna, had caused a lot of potential members to lose track of the association or miss out in areas they would have benefitted from or contributed towards.
To bridge this gap, the THSOSA national executives which were sworn into office at the AGM in November of the year 2017 came up with the initiative to create the tertiary chapters currently referred to as Uni-THSOSA, where members, graduating from or exiting THS, are linked together in a closed circle and constantly in touch with the parent body and any of her chapters within proximity of their locations.
This new approach brought about some positive wins in the following areas:
The objectives of the THS War Against Drug Abuse club is to
Prevent the use and sale of illegal drugs in the schoollinstitution
Plan and organize activities that will enhance
And to equip members with necessary skills that will enable them
resist pressures that pradispose people to drug abuse
through the mobilizion and motivate all laws banning sales, use and distribution and cultivation of illegal drugs and counsel and encourage students with drug related problems and seek help in appropraite treatment and rehabilitation centers.
We also inform and educate other students about the dangers of the use, sales, distribution and cultivation of illegal drugs and to promote and maintain sound personal health among others.
